Malika El Aroud, una belga de 48 años, se denomina a sí misma combatiente de Al Qaeda. A pesar de pertenecer a un movimiento que otorga poco poder a las mujeres, El Aroud se ha distinguido en el ámbito de Internet. Escribe en francés con el pseudónimo de Um Obeyda, y se ha convertido en una de las más destacadas yihadistas de Europa.
